SHIZEN YOGA STUDIO, est 2020
Nozawa onsen Yoga studio. Located on level 2 of Shimataya View Hotel.
Find our studio tucked in a peaceful corner of the village, overlooking the mountains here. The room is large and spacious with a traditional tatami floor and a wall of windows overlooking the mountain. Wake up and flow in the sun drenched space in the morning overlooking the sunrise or wind down in the evening with the sun setting behind the studio at the entrance when you walk in..
With warm herbal tea, a heated rug and a nice community to greet you on arrival, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a secret haven of Nozawaonsen.
SHIZEN CAFE est 2023
Shizen Cafe is the only Vegan Cafe in Nozawa onsen (eggs available) and offers many gluten-free, refined sugar-free and healthy food options to keep you feeling good and riding well, even in the midst of winter in Japan.
After a few pop-ups around town and at local summer markets, Shizen Cafe opened it’s permanent home on the main street of Nozawa here in January 2023.
A space for like-minded locals, lovers and travellers to slow down, connect and be nourished.
Inspired by Melbourne and Bali’s vibrant cafe scenes, local japanese ingredients and the yogi lifestyle, Shizen offers a varied menu to satisfy and nourish all. Whether you’re preparing or winding down from a big day on the slopes or here more for the onsens and self love, Shizen offers an exciting and varied menu with a Japanese twist. The menu is entirely plant-based with the option of adding eggs to any dish ( the only vegan cafe in Nozawa onsen) and offers many gluten-free options and refined sugar free options.
SHIZEN YOGA RETREATS est 2021
Yoga retreats in Japan.
Join Rowie in Nozawa onsen for an immersive 3-5 day yoga retreat in Japan or apply for the upcoming 200hr Yoga TTC in October 2025.
Shizen yoga retreats in Japan focus on sharing the beauty of Nozawa Onsen and taking time to slow down, reconnect and find space during the more peaceful ‘Green Season’ (spring, summer and autumn months- March-Nov), while supporting local businesses during this quieter, post-winter season period in the town. Experience a whole new side of Japan and perhaps yourself, escaping to the fresh air and lush green views of the mountains and soothing waters of the hotsprings - a slower pace of life.
